Herakles, son of Zeus born for strife,
Brought godly power to mortal life, Son of king exiled so young, He was cursed with rage just too high strung, Killed his family sons and wife, Cursed to serve 12 labors but promised eternal life, Once free he was took by wanderlust, Constantly fighting not one to let his skills find rust, Given a skin disease for betraying a strangers trust, Once again to slavery, To prove himself by bravery, Finally again taking a wife, But unknowingly tricked she took his life, So on a pyre Herakles blazes to light, To find immortality and take the goddess of youth as his wife. ~T. Meadows, inspired poem |
